2010 Does it Mean New Clubs
Evidently that is what Golf Digest is thinking as their February issue is full of suggestions for new golf equipment. Their magazine is also full of golf tips on how to hit the ball straighter and farther plus hot tips on iron play and straight and true putts. For all you snow bound golfers up north it may be time to check out your clubs this year. Did you clean them properly before you set them aside last fall. They may need to be checked over before the new season begins in your area.
This issue of Golf Digest takes a long look at your golfing equipments with a hot list and check out clubs from all angles. Even their ads are full of new technology with Pro Golfers making recommendation of either clubs or balls. They include a hot list from drivers, woods, hybrids, irons and putters. Followed by lessons from the best teachers and special articles from their usual good players both men and women.
I am going to skip the article about Tiger Woods entitled “What Happened” there has been enough said about his problems and I did not need to read this one either. I did take notice of a small insert by Lorena Ochoa about playing out of the rough using a Hybrid club. This was a very excellent article and I agree with her that those hybrid clubs are great out of the rough. She explains how easy they are to have the club slide under the ball without getting tangled in the grass. She explains just how to set up to the ball and grip down on the club and make a crisp shot out of a rough lie. Good job Lorena!
With Spring coming there is a series of lessons with one on “Getting My Feel Back” by Sergio Garcia as this is what is needed when you first get back to the golf course after a long lay off. I enjoyed the article about the Golf Digest awards of 2009. I saw my favorite gal from the LPGA JiYai Shin she was Rookie of the Year on LPGA tour. Al Miyazato was awarded the most improved player of LPGA and Lorena Ochoa received the Mickey Wright Award. There were men awards given out also but I always look for the women players.
Simple tips by Ann Rawson with three shots you need to score starting with the driver. The important message is keep your head still or steady will give you the best chance of hitting the ball flush. She continues with good pictures demonstrations of the iron and pitch. With the irons she says she likes to feel her body moving toward the target, with the pitch it is keeping the hands moving and accelerate through the ball. Ann Rawson is from Australia and she believes the game is all about the short game. She is so right as that is where most of your strokes come from.
You can’t go wrong on picking up this edition of Golf Digest if you are thinking of buying new clubs or even one or two. This magazine goes into detail on all well known golf clubs and rating each of them. You will be greatly informed with this February issue of Golf Dig
