Slow Cooker Turkey Breast Recipe
There are hundreds of appliances out there that promise to save cooks time in the kitchen. Most take up a lot of space, and the timesaving benefits are often debatable; many end up as long-term garage or basement storage. Once in a while, however, a company comes out with a new appliance worth having; one that truly saves time. The Nesco 3-in 1 Digital Cooker is one such appliance. I would rate it as the undisputable “ Appliance of the Year!” This appliance can be used as a pressure cooker, a steamer, and a slow cooker. It has a browning capabilities so you can brown the food prior to slow cooking or pressure cooking, and the pan is non-stick so less fat can be used. The appliance also has a timer so that cooking can start whenever it’s convenient. I’ve been using my Nesco 3 in 1 for the last six months and everything I’ve cooked has turned out perfectly. I‘ve pressure cooked pork ribs, stuffed pork chops, risotto, and dry beans; steamed puddings, rice, and homemade tamales; and slow cooked everything from casseroles, pot roasts, and soups, to a whole turkey breast. It’s reasonably priced, and makes a perfect gift for busy cooks; it’s perfect for RVs since it doesn’t take up a lot of space. I found that this great appliance is cheapest on Amazon and the shipping is free, but my local hardware store also carries it(at $50 more).
The following recipe for a whole turkey breast is perfect for Thanksgiving or other holiday parties. It looks nice because it has been browned, but doesn’t have to be watched in the oven. It produces lots of flavorful drippings to make good gravy, and the breast meat comes out very moist.
If using a regular slow cooker to prepare this turkey breast, brown it in a large skillet, transfer to a slow cooker, and add the wine and bouillon to the skillet; bring the mixture to a boil, scraping all browned bits from the pan, and pour over the breast in the slow cooker.
12 Servings
6 to 7 pounds turkey breast, (bone in)
2 tablespoons butter
salt and freshly ground pepper
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 tablespoon granular chicken bouillon
