Make Money Teaching Magic Classes
Magic workshops are easy to book and a great way to make money as a magcian. Rather than doing a show, you teach the children how to do various simple tricks. Classes are very popular with libraries and other community youth programs.

A balloon animal shop might also go over well in your area.

With a magic workshop, I put together a small magic kit for each child.
It will include a "Bill Harris" magic dollar which has several tricks on it.
(For a sample bill you can customize and photocopy, send $5 to: Magic Marketing, 25438 Cadiz Road, Freeport, Ohio 43973.)

I also include a fortune-telling fish, 2 card monte, 2 paper-clips (which will be used with the magic dollar to do the "linking paper-clips trick). Linking ropes, which I make up inexpensively. A small lunch bag is also provided.
I hand out the bag at the beginning, but the props are distributed one at a time as I demonstrate each effect.

In addition to these items, I also teach simple tricks like the crayon prediction, disappearing coin (elbow method), and sometimes things like the rock in the shoe, disappearing saltshaker, a paper tear, and similar simple tricks that can be done with things around the house.

Inexpensive tricks like the fortune-telling fish and 2 card monte are available from Robbins Magic in New York for pennies. I put together the whole magic kit for under $1.00 I charge the library $2 per child materials fee plus my standard fee for a 40 minute class. You might also offer the class for free and up the magic kit cost to $5 per child. The items in the kit are inexpensive but are a good value even at $5.

Magic workshops can be offered to all kinds of children's programs and usually sell well. You can stay very busy with workshops like these, so be sure to develop one.
