I have been following Angela on the LPGA tour as she is a Fort Worth, Texas golfer and as a junior golfer won the Fort Worth Girls Championship so she was off to a good start. She enrolled at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and played with their golf team and won nine college tournaments. She was an all American and all Western selection four times when she graduated from Texas Christian in 2000.

Angela turned professional in 2000 and played on the Duramed Futures Tour and won once and finished fourth qualifying her for the LPGA tour in 2001. Her first win was in 2003 at the ShopRite Classic and later she was in a three woman playoff in the U. S. Open but losing to Hilary Lunke.

I remember her in this year Solheim Cup but she has played in this tournament in 2003 and in 2007. I enjoyed watching her during this year as it was a great tournament and the American girls played so well. It gave me hope that they could keep this up and win more tournaments here next year.

I watched again at the State Farm LPGA Tournament in Arkansas this was quite a show where Angela had an amazing eagle on the final 18 hole to tie. She was then in a playoff with three other players and one Jiyai Shin who I have also been following won the playoff. Angela leads the LPGA in eagles now that says a lot about her golfing abilities.

Angela is 32 years old and had many years ahead of her on the tour. She is a great competitor but has a smile on her face most of the time. It makes you think she is enjoying the game and the competition. She has been known to say, “If you want to be the best you have to beat the best.” She has been one of the top money winners so that also says a lot about her golfing ability.

During the tournament in Rogers, Arkansas she had her mother attending and TV showed her mother on many of her shots in the playoff. It was good for Angela to have her mother see her play as her mother has been diagnosed as having breast cancer. So it was a bitter sweet event. Angela’s home town is Saginaw, Texas and has the Pro of Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, TX as her instructor.

Angela is taking some time off from Tournament play to be with her mother as she goes through her cancer treatments. She is very close to her family and these are trying times and we wish her well. It seems Angela gets lost when famous women golfers name’s come up but she is a fighter and I am sure all will recognize this great golfer soon.
