The theme this year is “The Road to the LPGA Ends in Albany” as it signifies the importance of the Futures Tour. Five top money winners will receive their card to the 2010 LPGA at Albany at the end of the ILOVENY Championship.
Mayor Jennings takes this opportunity to welcome the entire community to come and watch some of the most talented women golf professionals in the world. Whether you are a long time golfer or just starting out it will give you and your friends an opportunity to see what great golf is like up close and personal.
Capital Hills of Albany was formerly known as The New Course at Albany and it’s extremely hilly and immaculately groomed with fast greens and deep bunkers will make this an exciting tournament to watch. The course was redesigned in 1993 to bring it back to the original Devereux Emmet design for the Albany Municipal Golf Course which opened in 1929.
In 2001 Mayor Jennings announced a $1.6 million renovation of the golf course. It took four years to complete renovating the greens, bunkers and adding new fairway bunkers over the full course. Six holes of the course were lengthened and this has made Capital Hills one of the most scenic courses in the area and one of the nicest public golf courses in New York. Check out their web site at www.ilovenychampionship.com and you will find a series of pictures of this golf course and it does look beautiful.
On this web site you will find an area where you can volunteer to help work on the tournament. Volunteer are always needed and you will enjoy visiting with these great golfers from around the world. Getting involved is a very rewarding experience so check it out. There web site also has an area where you can order tickets plus a list of their sponsors. A few of the sponsors are SEFLCU, Jet Blue, Fuller-O’Brien, Hilton Garden Inn, Fox23 News etc. The charity who will receive benefit from this ILOVENY Championship is the Albany Police and Fire Foundations.
We wish the winners of 2009 Duramed FUTURES Tour much success during their play with the LPGA tour in 2010. We will be watching as these talented women golfers move forward in their career.
