Detective Story Books for Children
Everyone loves a mystery!
When your children read a mystery they become involved in solving the mystery – sometimes they even solve it before the young detective in the story – yet, sometimes they can become completely surprised at the end of the book. Children’s detective story books are for those who love mystery stories.
Because the stories are engaging and draw the reader into the mystery they keep the reader attached to the story and the children will develop even better reading skills. Some of the early chapter books contain mysteries and there are also large series collections with the same boy and girl detectives in each book. Detective story books help children develop great reading skills because they have to read each word carefully or else miss an important clue. If they are just skimming instead of reading each word they may go down the wrong path to the solution of the story. This will just confuse them so it may be good to have them read the stories aloud to you at first. This way you can clarify any words that may be difficult for them and help them get the grasp of the situations and plot.
Here is a list of just some of the children’s detective novel series to aid you in your selection. It is nice that today’s books are multi-cultural to reflect our current society. Some books have boys as the protagonists and others girls, but all central characters have friends of the opposite sex. Yet, one thing in common with the older classics and new releases is that the juveniles are independent. These kids can think for themselves and the plot allows them freedom from adult supervision.
Once your child gets involved with a series – don’t be surprised if they are asking for more books in the same series – frequent the library, or buy them at the bookstore or on Amazon.
