At the corner of 2nd and Juliana streets in downtown Parkersburg, WV
Do you believe in evolution? The Blennerhasset Museum of Region History is hosting a lecture series by prominent archeological experts focusing on the Ohio Valley region. They will discuss the mysteries of man as interpreted through their eyes. The sessions are from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and refreshments will be served. The series is $20 for museum members and $25 for nonmembers.

2011 West Virginia Wildlife Calendar Seeks Creative Submissions

Stay in this week and paint. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Section seeks original artwork submissions for its 2011 wildlife calendar. Winners for each month receive a prize of $100, and the cover winner receives a prize of $500. The deadline for submission of artwork is Feb. 15, 2010.

This year, 2010, marks the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway, America’s most scenic stretch of land from the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. To celebrate, Virginia is offering visitors to the Blue Ridge Parkway website a chance to win a vacation package for four that includes 7-day, 6-night overnight stays, airfare, and hybrid car rental. The trip features hikes, museum stops, music, and more.
