Let's talk about what an APP is. Simply put itis an abbreviation for application. However, it is also an abbreviated form of an application also.

There are many different kinds of APP's. Below are a few different types.

1 ~ Games
In the games category you will find different types of games to choose from. You have board game, cards, puzzles, etc. This is probably the most popular type of APP downloaded.

2 ~ Entertainment
In the entertainment category you will find things like tv shows, movies, e! Online, various soundboards (ringtones from famous shows/people/etc.), trivia, etc. This category is probably the most used when downloaded.

3 ~ Productivity
In the productivity category you will find things like notepad, voice recorders, calculators, file management, pdf viewers, timers, etc. These APP's can be very useful but since there are dozens of the same type choosing the correct one can be a challenge.

4 ~ Educational
In the educational category you will find things like flash cards, animal facts, state capitals, insects, etc. For homeschoolers these APP's can be very useful when on a field trip.

5 ~ Communication
In the commuication category you will find things like bluetooth, browsers, pdanet, twitter, caller ID, etc. You can think of this category as ways to help you communicate with others while staying safe.

6 ~ Finance
In the finance category you will find things like tip calculators, mobile banking, currency converter, stocks, etc. This category can be very useful to just about everyone.

7 ~ Health
In the health category you will find things like calorie counters, body fitness, recipes, medical herbs, CPR, weight recorder, etc. Everyone can benefit from these APP's!

8 ~ Reference
in the reference category you will find things lie dictionary, maps, bibles, book reades, encyclopeddias, thesaurus, etc. APP's every student can use.

9 ~ Lifestyle
In the lifestyle category you will find things like horoscope, coctails, ovulation tracker, love poems, bartender, fast food finder, lotto pics, etc. This seems to be the catagory for APP's that cannot be categorized easily.

10 ~ Shopping
In the shopping category you will find things like barcode scanners, yellow pages, my coupons, amazon, shopping lists, auctions, etc. These APP's are useful and imaginative.

11 ~ Sports
In the sports category you will find things like scores, olympic medals, golf, world cup, football, etc. APP's that revolve around the sports world.

12 ~ Themes
In the themes category you will find things like wallpapers, backgrounds, widgets, clocks, ringtones, etc.

13 ~ Tools
In the tools category you will find things like compass, unit converter, stop watch, translators, flaslights, bubbles, wifi analyzer, etc. Many of these APP's are fun and can save you when you least expect them to.

14 ~ Comics
In he comics categoy you will find things like daily dilber, peanuts, garfield, wallpapers, jokes, published comic strips, etc. These APP's are for those who read the comics daily!

15 ~ Travel
In the travel category you will find things like bus routes, subway maps, gps, flights, hotels, nav systems, currency, traffic, etc. Those who travel will use the APP's often.

16 ~ Demo
In the demo category you will find things like how to tie knots, software demos, beta APP's, etc. This APP categaory is just forming but I can see it growing.

17 ~ Software Libraries
In the software libraries you will find things like tools you can use to create you own APP's.

18 ~ Social
In the social category you will find things like facebook, twitter, love quotes, pickup lines, bars and clubs, etc. These APP's are a mixture of social networking areas.

19 ~ News & Weather
In the news & weather category you will find things like the weather channel, newspapers, magazines, cable news, tv-guide, etc. These APP's keep you up-to-date easily and quickly.

20 ~ Business
In the business category you will find things like contact management, email, texting, charts, pdf, etc. Many of these APP's are included with most cell phones so they will enhance what is already on you phone.

These simple definitions will be our guideposts as we explore the world of APP's over the next few weeks. I will choose a category, fully go through it and review several APP's.
