WWE Relases & a Hiring, SNME,The TNA Debut of a Former WCW & WWE Star, ECW, WM 22, & More!
My son is ill and in the hospital so I am going to make this a quick (for me) update and will continue updating as time allows. Let's get right to the news.
JUNIORS DIVISION NO LONGER
WWE recently reported that they have released all the "juniors" - aka midgets - that they had under contract. They had a plan to have a "Junior's Division" on Smackdown and had a few midget matches but apparently someone with a keen sense of what fans want decided to end the division. I do feel bad for the juniors who were contracted, however, as they probably were very happy to get a contract with WWE rather than to work indy shows all over the country to make a living.
ECW ONE NIGHT STAND COMES BACK FOR A SECOND NIGHT STAND
It has been confirmed that there will be another ECW pay per view in June under the auspices of WWE. Last year's ECW One Night Stand was a huge hit and drew in lots of fans from the golden days of ECW - and lots of wrestlers from that era. The pay per view is scheduled to air in June but no set card or roster has been made public yet.
WWE SIGNS FORMER WCW & WWE STAR
Former WCW and WWE star Chuck Palumbo is back with WWE after being released in a sweep of talent a while back. Palumbo worked a few dark matches recently and, based on his performances, was offered a contract. I have no idea what the plan is for him yet.
UPDATED SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT CARD
Saturday night is fast approaching and the updated card as of after the March 13 edition of Raw looks like this:
* John Cena & Triple H vs. Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton& Kurt Angle (Interpromotional handicap match)
* "HBK" Shawn Michaels vs. Shane McMahon (Street Fight)
* Mick Foley will be a guest on "The Cutting Edge" - Edge's talk show.
* "Stone Cold" Steve Austin will take on JBL in a Beer Drinking Contest
* Trish Stratus & Mickie James vs. Candice & Victoria
There may be a match or two set up after the Smackdown tapings as well.
SNME will air on NBC this Saturday, March 18 at 8 p.m. EST.
ANOTHER WWE HALL OF FAMER ANNOUNCED
WWE has announced that Verne Gagne will be inducted into this year's Hall of Fame along with Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Gene Okerlund, and "Sensational" Sherri Martel. More names will be added until Wrestlemania 22 on April 2.
STEINER DEBUTS FOR TNA
The TNA Destination X pay per view was a solid one with a couple of off the charts great matches. Sting returned as himself - Steve Borden - sans make up and in street clothes. Scott Steiner made his TNA debut attacking Borden at the end of the show. Steiner has never been in TNA before and looks to be in good shape. I am unsure of how long he is contracted to TNA but, if his foot, which was the cause of his release from WWE, has healed (He had a condition called "drop foot" where his foot would literally just drag), he may make a positive impact in the promotion. They just have to be careful not to make TNA today's WCW. The focus must stay on the young talent they have and the older nostalgia talent should be worked in around the younger roster.
Christian Cage, who defended his title against Monty Brown, retained and is still the TNA Champion.
WWE TO PUBLISH A FICTION NOVEL
You have probably read fan fiction. WWE has jumped onto the bandwagon and actually produced a fiction novel starring WWE stars who are recruited to be spies. The book, entitled "The Big Apple Takedown" will feature several current WWE stars in a fantasy spy adventure. You can rush out and get the book in May.
WRESTLEMANIA UPDATE
As we are nearing the big day, here is the card as it stands now. There will probably be one or two women's matches added (Expect Trish vs. Mickie James and possibly Torrie vs. Candice). There is a chance that another couple of matches will be added as well from either brand. Right now, here's what you will see on April 2 when you tune into WrestleMania 22.
* WWE Champion John Cena vs. Triple H
* World Champion Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio
* World Tag Team Champions Kane & Big Show vs. Chris Masters & Carlito
* United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. JBL
* Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Ric Flair vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Smackdown participants (to be announced this week)
* Edge vs. Mick Foley in a Hardcore Match
* The Undertaker vs. Mark Henry in a Casket Match
* Shawn Michaels vs. Vince McMahon
Expect to see Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan is some sort of cameo roles as well. The Hall of Fame inductees will also be on hand to be introduced to the crowd. Some may play a small part in a match or two but I don't expect Bret Hart to get involved in the Shawn Michaels vs. Vince McMahon match as fitting as it seems. Hart has consistently said he will not do an angle with WWE and certainly not with his still-nemesis, Shawn Michaels. Then again, this is WWE, you never know what you might see!
I better stop for now and get some sleep. I will be back with much more news and info in a day or so.
