“The human body can survive for about thirty days without food. The human condition can sustain itself for about three days without water, but no human alive can survive for more than thirty seconds without HOPE, because without hope we truly have nothing.”
Sean Swarner, Cancer Climber
To make a strong statement like the one above, and then place it on the front page of your website for the world to see takes guts. It takes guts because one has to know what they are talking about when it comes to matters of survival, the human condition and HOPE. Cancer Climber Sean Swarner knows what he’s talking about. He is a hope machine; it pours out of him when he speaks and shares the battle that he fought with cancer (twice) and won. While cancer is a huge part of Sean’s story it’s not THE story; the real story that flows from this remarkable, overcoming man is the story of life and living.
It’s been said that Sean has broken through defined human limitations in order to redefine the way the world views success.
Sean was diagnosed with two completely different types of cancer, once at age 13 and again at age 16, when he was given 14 days to live and read his last rights. He astounded the medical community when he survived both of these brutal diseases and a medical-induced coma. He realized that after defeating cancer twice, no challenge would ever be too great or any peak too high. He went on to climb Mt.Everest with only partial use of his lungs; last year he completed The Ford Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.
To put Sean in the category of a motivational speaker, would once again be limiting, Sean is a motivational “liver” he lives life in such a passionate way that it inspires others to live fuller and richer lives. As the founder of his non-profit organization, CancerClimber.org, Sean takes his message of triumph to corporate America speaking to world-renowned organizations.
At this time he has two major projects before him; his Mobil Camp: an innovative “portable” camp that will tour the United States stopping at children’s hospitals in twenty-four cites around the country. Every stop will offer a three-day camp providing those touched by cancer an incredible opportunity to climb, using a portable climbing wall, as well as have fun playing games, watching movies and listening to Sean as well as other survivors tell their stories. The tour will also offer counseling to patients and families, all free of charge. I appreciate this outreach project, because it supports my “don’t talk about it, be about it” belief and takes the fun right to the door (heart) of those who need it.
Sean is also planning to lead an African safari that includes an expedition up Mt.Kilimanjaro. This is an excellent opportunity for you to encounter first hand the strength and hope of this incredible man; but most importantly, it’s a chance for you to encounter your own strength and perseverance. The safari is “non-technical” and open to all skill levels. The expedition and safari will take place from July 25-Aug 9, there’s still time to reserve your space and head off for this life-changing adventure.
As business owners, we all have our challenges, through Sean and his message we see what can happen when those challenges are turned into opportunities to excel and triumph.
