Motivate Like a CEO - Book Review
Motivate Like a CEO Communicate Your strategic Vision and Inspire People to Act!
Suzanne Bates
McGraw Hill, 2009
Executive coach and author Suzanne Bates has written a clear and concise book on leadership at its highest rank. While you may not be a CEO of a fortune 500 company, it does not mean that you cannot hone your skills to motivate like one.
In her new book, Motivate Like a CEO Communicate Your strategic Vision and Inspire People to Act! Ms. Bates talks to those in leadership roles, those just climbing up the ladder or those who desire to be in a leadership position.
This book could not have come at a better time. With increasing unemployment, employees who are fortunate enough to still have a job may have a difficult time feeling motivated. They are stressed because they do not know if they are next to receive the proverbial ‘pink slip'. Many live in fear that their company will downsize and they will be left out in the cold. These are challenging times for company leaders, how can they keep their employees committed and motivated when they too are stressed, often overworked and saddened by what is happening around them.
The author states, “To write this book, I gave quite a bit of thought to what it means to motivate like a CEO. I finally decided that what is comes down to is this: connecting people with purpose and passion toward a commitment goal…To motivate like a CEO is to be driven by purpose and to connect other people with that purpose.” Suffice to say this can be achieved by communicating with your employees or your team. Keeping people in the loop is necessary to motivate them.
Communication and Purpose
Bates wants you to “think of your job as a leader as CMO--chief motivational officer.” As such you need to reach out to everyone in your company. She says, “People need to see how they fit into the larger mission of the of organization.” This makes such sense, although it is the big dog who runs the show, much cannot happen without the help of the lowest level employee.
Author Susan Bates has written a book that will prove to be valuable to all leader's including those who have home businesses, especially those in direct selling and have small, loyal teams who look to them for advice and encouragement. The cogent advice offered in Motivate Like a CEO Communicate Your strategic Vision and Inspire People to Act! can help to motivate anyone who reads the book.
