The Herb Quarterly
The Herb Quarterly is a magazine that you will want on your bookshelf. It is full of wonderfully USEFUL articles, recipes and ideas for creating everyday things out of the herbs we all love.
What makes this magazine stand out is the beautiful artwork. Every picture looks hand drawn and then lovingly water colored. You look once for the artwork, and a second time for the articles. You more than likely will look one more time at the interesting advertising.
I love that the ads do not feel like an interruption to your reading. They are highly creative and lovely. It is a learning experience to read the issues. I find myself making notes of many ads, since they often are small companies. These are the kinds of businesses I like to support. Their higher standards are in line with the quality that I look for in herbs and herbal products.
The Herbal Healthwatch section, is always very interesting. This month alone, there are 5 excellent articles that will inspire you to think deeper into bringing herbs into your life. Even though I feel that I keep my finger on the pulse of herbalism, I am always amazed at how much herbal news that I miss. This is a welcome part of my subscription to this magazine.
The Herb Quarterly is not a glossy, main stream type read. Although there is certainly a place for that type of publication, you may be as pleased as I am, to see that the writing is more focused on bringing herbs into your life in a meaningful and healing way.For instance, the Herbalist's Notebook is another section that is well worth a look. It is written by the infamous Jim Long, of Longcreek Herbs. He always writes in such an approachable manner, yet his knowledge is always so impressive. I appreciate that he writes using layman's terms, and always brings a personal touch to what lesson he shares with the reader.
The Q and A section is always fun to read. There are a lot of questions that I have never thought to ask, and many that inspire me to try new ideas in my own herb gardens.
All in all, this is really a superb magazine. I highly recommend subscribing to it.
