Con Bro Chill Review

Con Bro Chill Review
A band, a clothing company, a professional lacrosse player’s nickname, a YouTube video series, and an on-going party filled with creativity. Con Bro Chill can only be described as a multi-faceted group of four men that are always looking to have a good time.

Founded in 2009 and originally starting as a lacrosse nickname for band member Connor Martin, Con Bro Chill quickly spawned into a series of YouTube videos that were directed by Connor’s brother SAMM, who is also a producer for Warner Chapel/Atlantic, as well as a musician and director. Soon after, roommates and fellow lacrosse teammates, Ty Andre and Steve Felts, from Chapman University also joined the band, turning their duo into a group.

With a genre that they have self-described as “absurd power pop,” Con Bro Chill has been influenced by groups and musicians such as LMFAO, OK GO, Freddy Mercury and Andrew W.K. With creative vision, artistic skills and a colourful aesthetic, CBC is quickly becoming a party-filled, musical extravaganza.

In December 2009, Con Bro Chill released their debut EP, titled This Is Cool, on iTunes. This EP features their biggest song and video to date, which is called “Come to My Party.” This song and video to me is a hilarious mixture of having a good time and not being afraid to laugh at oneself. Soon afterwards, the group released their second EP on iTunes, calling this one This Is Boom. The two big hits and videos for this EP were “Arena” and “Respect Your Partner” – which have good underlying messages throughout the goofy, fun-time dance songs. The band spent the majority of 2011 both writing and recording their debut full-length album, titled 3D Music, as well as recording videos for the album. Their latest songs were released on January 31, 2011.

My only issue with Con Bro Chill is that I wish they took their music a bit more seriously and worked on producing songs that were a bit easier to sit and listen to – rather than simply party-ready songs. However, I understand that this is the whole point and goal of Con Bro Chill – to always have a good time and to always enjoy life – so I fully respect what they do and I hope they continue living, making music and creating videos that are so free-spirited and happy-go-lucky.
