Book Review The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking
I first heard of James Twyman several years ago through his “Art of Spiritual Peacemaking” course which he offered through his website www.emissaryoflight.com.
When I first perused his website I was so taken with how this man gives himself to the world in service. Emissary of Light – that’s for sure! Not only does he travel the world preaching peace, but he has a seminary program (which is highly rated), many spiritual courses, AND he’s a singer and songwriter! In fact, in one of his recent tours he played in Washington DC. He also has workshops scheduled throughout the course of the year all around the world.
So when I received his book, “The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking” I was very excited.
This book is a “course,” and not something you just sit down and read. It is also explained that these are the “Secret Teachings from Jeshua ben Joseph.”
Jeshua, is of course, the Aramaic pronunciation of the name of the great teacher Jesus. And where Mr. Twyman will state directly that these are not “channeled” writings, they are definitely inspired!
The first part of the book is filled with short essays that are meant to be read and contemplated once every three days. There are 33 lessons in all (numerologically a very auspicious number) and they are completed over a three month time period.
The second part of the book is filled with 365 daily lessons. The lessons are short in and in the majority of the lessons less than one half a page.
This is an excerpt from Day 174:
”….God is present in every instant, and every way, and that your willingness to See this presence in others draws it into your heart and mind.”
I so enjoyed going through this book that I started it up again with the New Year. The lessons are loving, and designed to bring us closer to the truths we carry within our own hearts. I will admit, it’s somewhat reminiscent of A Course in Miracles (also inspired by Jesus), but with “The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking” I felt like I was going somewhere. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE A Course in Miracles, but I spend far too much time dwelling on it LOL! With “The Art of Spiritual Peacemaking” I felt like I was making strides, and absorbing the information.
I enjoyed both the three month course, and the daily meditations, and love that they are included together in one book! I would highly recommend Spiritual Peacemaking to anyone looking for a simple daily spiritual practice that packs a punch!
