Mini Flat Iron - Product Review
The TS-2 Detailer is billed as the world’s smallest flat iron. It features tourmaline/ceramic/ionic – nano technology. (Those are all the latest technologies in hair care.)
I had to try out this miniature flat iron just because of its uniqueness. It is tiny - only six inches long and just over 1/2 inch wide. If it proved effective, it would be perfect for travel – not taking up any space and very light weight.
I was very interested in seeing if the iron would be useful for smoothing the hair that is very close to my head. My hair is curly so I have to make an effort to smooth out the root area when I'm straightening my hair.
I plugged it in and turned it on. It was hot within a few minutes. In using it, I found it useful for styling the shorter areas of my hair. I was able to put curl into my bangs. However, I found that it was not as effective as I had hoped on the longer areas. Even though I could get the iron close to my scalp, the results didn’t seem to be any better than my regular flat iron.
I used it on the ends of my longer hair. It did work for detailing small strands. I was able to put a flip in several strands. The main problem that I noticed is that the edges of the plates of the iron have hard edges - not curved at all. These edges seemed to pull as I dragged the iron through the longer lengths of my hair. Long hair that has been flat ironed is often fragile. The hard edges of the iron could cause breakage and split ends while it is being pulled through the hair.
I do suggest this mini flat iron for touch ups and for styling short hair. Short hair stays in stronger condition so it is not at risk of damage from the iron. The TS-2 Detailer heats very fast and gets very hot. This is good for quick touch-ups. Beware: There is no temperature control and it heats to a temperature of 400 degrees. Over use will damage anyone’s hair, however it is safe for quick touch-ups. A nice feature is that the iron comes with a styling mitt included. The mitt will protect your styling hand while handling the iron. I found that it was also handy to lay the iron on while not in use.
As I think about it: This six inch flat iron is perfect to carry to business meetings on humid days. Since it fits in a purse and heats quickly, I might duck into the ladies room for a last minute touch-up.
(The TS-2 Detailer is said to be useful in wet to dry styling. I did not try the wet to dry straightening because I don't favor this method. I prefer to dry my hair first and flat iron after.)
