Hello, and welcome back! I've been looking over the remaining October books and am feeling a bit let down. This seems to have been a bit of a slow month, and, in looking over the releases for next month, November doesn't look like it's going to be any better. Usually I have an enormous shopping list, but my November list is rather lacking. I hope it turns out better than I'm expecting.

This time out, I have Loucinda McGary's The Wild Sight (Sourcebooks). Donovan O'Shea left Ireland to escape his 'gift' of clairvoyance years ago, but now his father's illness has brought him back, and it seems his sight is growing stronger by the day. Rylie Powell never knew her real father, but her mother's death has given her information she never hoped for: a name. That name belongs to Donovan's father. Donovan knows in his heart that she can't be his sister, but Rylie isn't so sure. Which is why the attraction between them is so disturbing to her. That didn't bother me so much as his determination to act on the attraction without first making sure they weren't related. In their combined digging into the past, her in her search for her father, and him by allowing an archeological dig on his family's old home property, they stir up trouble, the sort of trouble that in some parts of Ireland generally causes bodily harm and/or death. Then there is Donovan's gift, which gets progressively stronger throughout the story, and which leads him into even more danger. I had high hopes for this one, with its setting and the psychic aspect of the story. But I didn't much care for these characters. Neither was especially engaging, I'm afraid, and the mystery is easily solved if you're only half-paying attention. It was rather disappointing, to say the least. I think my favorite character in this was Donovan's father, a sick, crotchety old man who plays a pivotal part in the story. But that doesn't make this one a keeper. Too bad. It's only earned two and a half of Cupid's five arrows.
