Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz has recently given an interview to an Austrian newspaper, discussing several F1 related topics. One is particularly important, as Mateschitz has hinted that he may not want to sell Toro Rosso after all.

The Austrian businessman had previously expressed a desire to sell his 50% share in Toro Rosso, as the customer car regulations are under review. By 2010, the team would need to be able to build its own chassis and be self-sufficient, and at the time, Mateschitz said he didn’t need to have two Formula 1 teams.

However, Toro Rosso’s recent success on track, and their introduction of superstar driver Sebastian Vettel may be changing his mind. The actual quote said that nothing is decided and maybe nothing will be sold. This, of course, is not concrete evidence, but co-owner Gerhard Berger must be happy that things may go his way. He recently spoke out and called for Red Bull to put more resources towards their sister team, as it was clear they could both be competitive.

Regarding the new Red Bull signing for 2009, Sebastian Vettel, Mateschitz admitted that there is a lot of interest in the young German, and that at least half the grid want to sign him up. He’s determined that the team will provide a competitive car, though, and therefore be able to keep him on their books for the foreseeable future. It doesn’t look likely that Vettel would be tempted to move any time soon, as he has been associated with Red Bull for a long time, and Mateschitz believes they will be fighting for wins next season.

They will have David Coulthard on board, as the veteran retires at the end of this season, but remains involved with his current team Red Bull. Although he will be doing plenty of other work outside the team, and be starting a family with his fiancé, Mateschitz confirms that we will see Coulthard in the car again testing, and he will provide a supervisory role, much as Schumacher does to Ferrari. We often see the seven times world champion on the Ferrari pit wall, at test days and during the races. With the regulations returning to previous iterations, including little aerodynamics, and slick tyres, Coulthard’s input will be very useful to the team.
