Helen Wagner turned 90, September 3rd. She is truly a legend in not only CBS Soaps, but Soap Operas period. With a career that spans 52 years on As the World Turns, she has received many prestigious awards and broke many daytime records. Here are some facts about Ms. Nancy Hughes, Queen of Oakdale:
-2001 Silver Circle Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences
-2004 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences
-Only original cast member remaining on As the World Turns
-Starred in many Broadway plays, including 'Oklahoma' and 'The Bad Seed'
-Wagner earned a degree in Drama/Music from Monmouth College in Illinois.

Recently Nancy’s character has been a mentor and confidant to many people in Oakdale. Nancy helped Allison Stewart come to grips with her past and to move on with her future. Nancy is a long time friend to Katie Snyder. Nancy helped Katie through her relationship woes with Mike Kasnoff and Henry Coleman. Nancy is known for her non-judgmental advice. Recently, Katie wrote Oakdale Confidential anonymously, but when the book was released, most of Oakdale was in an uproar. She begged Nancy to take the heat, and tell everyone she wrote the book. Nancy went along with it for a while, handling the backlash form Lisa and others with grace and dignity. It is also revealed in the book how Nancy helped solve a murder.
To celebrate Helen Wagner’s 90th birthday, As the World Turns will have a tribute to Nancy. The current cast will play characters from the past. Maura West (Carly Snyder) will play young Lisa in a montage that will feature Nancy before she arrived in Oakdale.
