Some results are still coming in as I type this but one thing is clear, the Republicans have overtaken the House. Nancy Pelosi is out. The Democrats remain in control of the Senate but not by a huge margin.

So now what happens? President Obama will speak later on today. The only thing we know right now is that Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton has said, “today we get a message from the American people, tomorrow the President will respond to that.” Yes, it is a new message. Let me attempt to interpret it.

I believe what the people have said is that what we voted for in 2008 hasn’t worked. I believe that some Americans knew all along it wouldn’t work. For others, it took a little longer. I believe the American people are saying that we want our jobs back. We want to provide for our families. We want our taxes cut. We want less government intrusion and we certainly want less government spending. And P.S., no more bailouts.

Yes, the people have given a message but how will President Obama respond? How will he work with the GOP? Does this affect his ability to ever stand a chance at being in office a second term? As all of this unfolds, we sit back as Americans with bated breath.

So the Republicans want to change course. Will Mr. President align himself or will he continue to stubbornly pursue his own agenda? I really wonder if he will get it.

For the Republicans this is a huge victory. Not since1994 have they seen such gains, when they picked up 54 seats in the House. The last time the Republican Party saw such success was back in 1938.

It is interesting to note many of the Tea party favorites that slid in. In the state I live in, Russ Feingold, who served for three terms lost to Tea party supported Ron Johnson and it wasn’t narrowly. It was a slam dunk.

Yesterday in my Facebook status I posted this quote by John Quincy Adams, “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”

I believe that is exactly what the American people did last night. I would prefer much less of siding with a party and picking the right candidate, based on principle and issues. But no matter, the Republicans have overtaken the House and new change is about to come.
