Through the years, I have had just about every type flooring that there is available. Here is what my experience has taught me.

Wood Floors

There are many options available for wood flooring. Still around are the original square wood tiles and long thin planks that require glue. But today�s market has much more to offer in wood flooring. Square wood tile and thin planks now come with self adhesive backings making them much easier to place down, not to mention the fumes associated with the glue. Wood flooring is also now available in wide planks that come in different styles from glossy to a rustic and worn plank look. Remember that wood wears and can also become dented.

Tile

Tile has been around for awhile and is often found in newer homes. Now you can choose between small tiles to very large tiles, from matte to high gloss. They can range from inexpensive to expensive. Remember that tile is a hard surface when walking on it. It is also cool to your feet and will be slippery when wet. If something falls on it, it can break.

Laminate

Laminate is a great alternative for any type of flooring. It is easy to clean and does not require much in the way of maintenance. It does not wear like wood does and comes in a variety of patterns from wood to ceramic. It is scratch and stain resistant but can chip if something heavy falls on it. If care is taken, it can last a lifetime.

Vinyl

Vinyl has come a long way in recent years. There are many more patterns available from a ceramic look to a wood look. It cleans easily and is soft on your feet. It is still practical to use vinyl just about anywhere in the home especially in the bathroom or kitchen. Remember vinyl can also rip or chip.

Any of these floorings can be used for every room of your home with area rugs. Living in the southeast, I use area rugs in the winter months to give the room a much warmer look. Area rugs can be cleaned, rolled up and put away for the summer months giving you a different and cooler look for your room.
