Very soon the heat of the summer will be on us and everyone will be jumping to turn down the thermostat. Before you jump to do so, think about how much that electric bill is going cost you. You may want to wait a little longer before doing that. So I decided to share a list of some tips to make the summer a little easier.

Make sure that all of the windows have blinds or shades to keep out the sun. In addition, it is a really good idea to have curtains and drapes. Keep blinds, shades, curtains and drapes closed during the heat of the day. You may also want to put window tint on the windows facing the southern sky. And don't forget the garage windows while you are at it. It's get hot in the garage too.

Turn up the thermostat on the central air conditioning and buy a window unit for each bedroom for sleeping. A window unit uses much less electricity than central air conditioning.

Use fans to circulate the air in the room that you are in. Using ceiling fans will also make the room feel a few degrees cooler.

Don't cook in the house. This is the time of year to make use of the barbecue more often. In addition to the barbecue, purchase a counter top oven or toaster oven that you can bring outside to cook. You will keep the house cooler by cooking outside instead of in.

Keep your hair wet throughout the day or better yet, make use of the pool if you have one. This easily can cool down your body.

Don't forget to stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids. Eating light cool meals like salads and fruit will also make you feel better.

Dry your clothes outside on a clothes line instead of using the dryer. The dryer can also add heat to your home not to mention what it does to your electric bill.

Have a kiddie pool for children to play in and keep cool.

A kiddie pool is also a good idea for pets. They get hot also.

These are just a few ideas that can help to keep your electric bill under control during the summer months that are coming upon us quickly. As electric rates are climbing, we all will be looking for more ways to save money.
