Avon helps raise money for Domestic Violence Awareness

One in three women has been abused in some form at least once in their lifetime. One in three! That statistic is scary. I am one of those 3 women, my mother is one of those 3, and one of my grandmothers is one of the 3 as well. When will the abuse stop? No one can predict that but there are many programs out there that are helping victims and survivors raise awareness to this epidemic in hopes we can stop abuser from taking more victims.

Avon is one such company that is raising money to help in the fight. Avon is a world known company for their great health and beauty products mostly purchased by women. The Avon foundation helps educate people through education and awareness items that are given to their representatives and through donations to education services and places that offer help to victims and survivors.

Announced on March 4, 2008, the new “Empowerment Bracelet” was released and Reese Witherspoon offered her voice as a celebrity endorsement for this campaign to raise awareness. At the press conference announcing this, Witherspoon said:

“As honorary chair of the Avon Foundation, I’m very excited to introduce the Women’s Empowerment Bracelet,” said Reese Witherspoon. “Wearing this bracelet is a way to support efforts to save and improve women’s lives worldwide; every purchase will help empower women. This bracelet is a symbol of hope and unity that represents a future without limitations for all women, a cause I truly believe in.”

The bracelet costs on $3 each with 100% of the profit going directly to the Avon Empowerment Fund. There are 2 types of bracelets available. One bracelet is made from a stretchy material with a symbol of infinity in silver. The other is a rubber strap with a silver plate that says “Speak Out” inscribed onto it. There is also a candle in a blue holder with a blue ribbon tied around it. Attached to the ribbon is a small silver plate with the words “Speak Out” inscribed into it which sells for $4. And lastly There is a keychain available that is made of a rubber plastic strap and attached to the key holder is a silver plate that says “Speak Out Against Domestic Violence” and is available for $5.
