Y&R’s 35th anniversary
The Young and the Restless is celebrating two milestones: they celebrate their 35th Anniversary this month as well as the fact that they’re #1 for the past 19 years.
It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. Remember Phyllis and Danny, or Brad and Traci? I miss Ryan, Victoria’s love interest. And who can forget Drucilla. Soon, Y&R will reach 1,000 weeks as the #1 daytime drama. It’s my favorite soap on CBS. I have always been a Y&R fan because of their consistency with characters and great storylines. And they continue to stay current with great music acts like Enrique Iglesias and Pat Benatar. Here are my all time favorite unforgettable moments to date:
John Abbott’s death
John Abbott has always been the voice of reason in the Abbott family. Everyone, even the illustrious Victor Newman, admired him. His death was tragic, specifically because at the time of his death he was in prison, estranged from his wife and feuding with Jack. It was sad and untimely, and the Abbott family doesn’t seem as close knit without their patriarch.
Kay discovering Jill is her daughter
These two women have loathed each other for years. Jill slept with Kay’s husband years ago, and the two have despised one another ever since. Kay is a good friend of John Abbott, but she never admired his taste in women. John tends to be naive in this department.
Cassie’s death
Cassie was such a bubbly character who never seemed like she was related to Sharon. Sharon can be manipulative and air-headed at times. Quite to the contrary, Cassie seemed very mature and grounded for her age. She thought of Nicholas as her father and Noah as the brother she has known all her life. I was unaware that the character was exiting the show, so I was quite stunned when she died. Fans were outraged that the character’s role ended the way it did.
Sheila/Lauren feud
This storyline spans decades. I remember Sheila when she and Lauren worked at the same hospital. I always thought she was a little off, but I never imagined she was the psychopath that she turned out to be. For years, Sheila tormented Lauren and her whole family. The suffering finally ended when Lauren shot and killed Sheila.
