Paula Pryke Table Flowers Book Review
Innovative floral designer Paula Pryke continues to astound the world of floral design with her revolutionary approach. Fans will love her latest book, “Table Flowers-Innovative Floral Designs for Entertaining.” This was released in November 2007 by Rizzoli International Publications. This hard cover features exquisite photos by Sarah Cuttle. One look at the cover and you know you’re in for a treat.

Table Flowers is suitable for both novice and experienced floral designers.

The author provides all the details you need to create gorgeous arrangements for dining and entertaining. There are step-by-step instructions for projects and literally hundreds of ideas within these pages. An entire section covers recommended flowers. One chapter presents recommended foliage, while another has favorites of florists.

Pryke devotes an entire section to a seasonal approach. This includes a chapter for each of the four seasons. There are more projects here than there is time to make them. In one summer scene she uses artichokes as candle holders. Her approach to spring is especially refreshing.

One chapter called Take Five Containers is just so inspiring. This focuses on classic containers, including an urn. Using the same urn, she demonstrates four totally different ideas, depending on the season.

The author explains how to create various kinds of centerpieces and individual place settings that will really stand out. The emphasis is on how to personalize your table. For those situations where space is tight, she also has suggestions on compact arrangements. One chapter gives an in-depth look at how to use candles in centerpieces.

The examples are breathtaking. For fall, she uses golden and orange hued flowers with very dark, almost black foliage. For Christmas, she shows how to use just the right number of golden gilded apples in a centerpiece.

There are also chapters devoted to each kind of special event and holiday. These include birthdays, weddings, special family get-togethers, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

The final chapter deals with basics, such as how to choose and care for flowers, tools, floral arranging techniques, and types of containers.
