The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything
The VeggieTales franchise has sold more than 50 million DVDs and videos since its inception in 1993. Now, with its Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything – A VeggieTales Movie, it continues its hit series by featuring value-based lessons that teaches children what it really means to be a hero.
As we follow the comic misadventures of our three animated veggie pals, Elliot (Larry the Cucumber), Sedgewick (Mr. Lunt), and George (Pa Grape), who reluctantly embarks on a sailing adventure, we find that you really don’t need to be tall, strong, human, or even human, to be a hero.
Although Elliot is timid, Sedgewick is lazy, George lacks self-confience and all are working at the Pieces of Ate Dinner Theatre, our three heroes find that being a busboy is less than exciting when you have dreams of ditching and taking the stage to star in the big pirate show.
And, things definitely start to change for the three moping misfits, when a mysterious ball drops from the sky and lands at the unlikely seafarers’ feet. Called a “Hellpseeker,” it is sent in search of herios. And, it sets in motion a series of events that drag our friends back to the 17th century, and into the belly of uncertain danger. Each must face their own fears to become the unlikely heroes in a battle to rescue a royal family from an evil tyrant, as well as themselves from living the life of common couch potatoes.
Cast
Mr. Lunt plays Sedgewick (voiced by Phil Vischer), a gourd who would rather be home watching The Love Boat and eating cheese curls. Going against his own will, Sedgewick decides that the adventure is worth the sacrifice and that life means little if it’s just about him. When he thinks about his relationships with others, he finds that he has the strength that he never knew existed.
Larry the Cucumber plays Elliot (voiced by Mike Nawrockie), a veggie who fears just about everything. He actually keeps a list that includes spiders, snakes, and wicker furniture. Though he would like a themed-park adventure, he prefers to be fake and safe. When the real adventure begins, he panics. It is only when his two buddies needs him to be brave that he overcomes his weaknesses.
Pa Grape plays George (voiced by Phil Vischer), and totally lacks backbone. When presented with small opportunities to voice his opinion, he always allows others decisions and opinions matter more than his own in order to get along. But, as the adventure continues he must overcome his get along/go along attitude. And, he must realize that he’s not alone and that he was called upon to take on this journey. When things get their worst, George is the one who echoes that “even cabin boys can do what’s right!”
