In 2008, we will see 22 drivers take to the grid. They are numbered in constructor's championship winning order from last year, which means title-contender Lewis Hamilton is down in the lowly 20s. As usual, there is no number 13, so we will see a driver with the number 23.

Ferrari 1 & 2 – Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa
Raikkonen will be keen to defend his title from 2007, especially where the fight with McLaren was such a close one. Massa, for his part, will want to backup his team mate and play the team game, but is bound to be out for some glory of his own.

BMW 3 & 4 – Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica
Heidfeld has plenty of experience under his belt now, and with BMW determined to push for some wins, he should be able to capitalise this year. Kubica is settling into F1 nicely, and may push his team mate for the first BMW winners trophy.

Renault 5 & 6 – Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet
Renault weren't exactly on fine form last year, but Alonso's first day back in the car saw him top the testing timesheets. It's too early to see this as a real indicator of speed and compare to the others, but Piquet will be glad to learn from a top driver.

Williams 7 & 8 – Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima
Rosberg needs to start getting some results, or he'll feel his talent is being squandered in the midfield. Nakajima doesn't seem to fazed by his disastrous debut race in Brazil last year, where he knocked down some of his pit crew.

Red Bull 9 & 10 – David Coulthard and Mark Webber
Probably the team with the most experienced drivers under their belt, Red Bull have been making all the right noises and now we have to wait for the wins. Coulthard appears to be comfortable and happy at Red Bull, and Webber is fitting in just nicely as well.

Toyota 11 & 12 – Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock
It seems to be that Trulli has been a bit lost since his split from Renault and Alonso. Toyota appear to have been lacklustre in their Formula 1 efforts for the last few years, but now they're talking about picking things up again. Glock is a welcome addition to the driver lineup.

Toro Rosso 14 & 15 – Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Vettel
Clearly there's something in a name, as Toro Rosso pluck two relative rookies to head up their team. Vettel had mixed reviews for 2007, some stunning drives and some silly mistakes. He continues to learn. Bourdais is fresh from winning Champ Car many times, so he may need some time to adjust.

Honda 16 & 17 – Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello
There's not too much to say about Honda, as their dreadful performance last season can only mean the drivers will be wishing for any shred of hope of a better year this time round.

Super Aguri 18 & 19 – Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson
Although Super Aguri haven't actually confirmed their drivers yet, they have said they want the pair to stay on board for this year. Sato is fiery and sometimes gets results, whilst Davidson is methodical but suffers from bad luck.

Force India 20 & 21 – Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella
The late announcement of Fisichella leaves Sutil as the least experienced in the team. It's a step up for Force India, but a step down for Fisi, and personally, I think he'll be frustrated at the back of the grid. Sutil will continue to improve and get the most out of the car.

McLaren 22 & 23 – Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen
Hamilton will be just as good as last year, maybe even better. Having a less than stormy relationship with his team mate should also help. Kovalainen should gain plenty of experience at McLaren, just like he did previously at Renault.
