Prayer With Friends in High Places
When I pray, am I on my own? What do I say to reach my Heavenly Father? How can I make my feelings known?
Trouble often separates us from others. And praying during this time can be a lonely experience. Prayer at any time can seem lonely. Often I’m not sure that I’m even being heard. As I read about prayer in the Bible, it turned out that just the opposite is true. I found that I am not alone during prayer, at all.
As I approach the throne of God, I now realize that I have two friends who have come along side me.
John 15:15 says that I am a friend of Jesus if I follow Him. The Son of God, the Savior, calls me His friend.
Jesus is my advocate in heaven and stands at God’s right hand. He is there to escort me into the Father’s presence - the presence of Almighty God,. There is no one who can say that I’m not good enough or dispute my right to be there. Jesus testifies that I am good enough because I am His. He is always interceding for those that are His.
Hebrews 7:25 and Romans 8:34
When I am kneeling in prayer, in the presence of the Father, I sometimes feel so helpless that I am at a loss for words. My prayer seems to be over simplified and doesn’t express what is really in my heart. The Holy Spirit comes to my aid and supports me. He is called the Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate or Strengthener. He is a friend who pleads on my behalf, forming my prayers in accordance with God’s will. He makes known the innermost longings of my soul. I may be unable to put my prayers into words, but I don’t have to worry. The Holy Spirit, my guardian, expresses my deepest emotions to the Father.
John 14:16, Romans 8:26,27
So, as I am kneeling before the Almighty God, in deep need, I imagine the Spirit hovering over me and translating my pitiful pleading into beautiful prayers that rise up to the Father. And kneeling at my side, with His arm around my shoulder is my Savior, Jesus Christ, interceding for me. With this in mind, I know that the Father hears me and I will never feel alone again.

The dictionary defines the word intercede as “to act on behalf of someone in difficulty or trouble, as by pleading or petition.”I am in trouble and Jesus is pleading my case.
