Linda McMahon is the wife of WWE owner, Vince McMahon, and they were childhood sweethearts from her age of thirteen years old. Vince was sixteen years old at the time and they were introduced to each other at church. They were married in 1966.
Linda McMahon, born Linda Marie Edwards in New Bern, North Carolina and graduated from East Carolina University in 1969 where she received a degree in French with a minor in Spanish and she is now the current Chief Executive Officer of the WWE and its parent company, Titan Sports. She formed Titan Sports in 1979 when they moved to Massachusetts and purchased a small sports arena called the Cape Cod Coliseum. They held hockey games, basketball games and wrestling events there. In 1980, Linda and Vince incorporated Titan Sports and purchased Capitol Wrestling Corporation from Vince’s father when it was still a regional wrestling company. The two of them soon turned the regional promotion into a multi-million dollar worldwide business enterprise.
Linda McMahon soon engineered the first licensing deal in the entire wrestling industry by teaming up with toy company, LJN and produced the line of WWE Superstar action figures. She also oversaw the development of WWE Publications and wrote most of the articles at first. Besides running the WWE with her husband, Mrs. McMahon is involved in several organizations and charities.
Mrs. McMahon has also led the creation of WWE’s Get R.E.A.L. educational and literacy programs, to include the organization’s nationwide WrestleMania Reading Challenge in partnership with the Young Adult Services Library Association. In 2005, Linda McMahon was appointed to the National Advisory Committee of the Make-A- Wish Foundation of America. She is also a staunch supporter of the USO and the Starlight Foundation Research Foundation.
She has also served as the Honorary Corporate Chair of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and ran one of the organization’s most successful fundraising events and has served on the Governor’s Council for the World Special Olympics. In 2004, she was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut and now serves on the Executive Committee. Also, a former Girl Scout herself, Linda McMahon was asked to be the keynote speaker at the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut’s Women of Achievement Leadership Breakfast in May of 2007.
Linda McMahon is not just a face in the WWE and she is not just the husband of Vince McMahon. She is an integral part of the company and has been since its inception. Her personal quote is: “I don’t play CEO, I AM the CEO.”
