Publishers Weekly
This 100+ year old print publishing magazine is an industry leader in providing trends, news and reviews of pretty much everything to do with book publishing. The last couple years they have expanded their reach to include the internet.
Publishers Weekly has seven main best sellers lists: audio, children, comics, paperback, non-fiction, religion and of course the one we want, fiction. Their best sellers list is tabulated weekly and includes the book's placement from the previous week, if applicable, and the number of times it has appeared on the list. The list isn't overwhelming, only the top fifteen. It's a simple list with name, author, publisher, book price and ISBN to make it easier to go book shopping. The titles are highlighted so you can click on them to read Publisher's Weekly staff reviews.
The unfortunate thing is that, for the average reader, Publishers Weekly's membership is pricey, but with it you get the weekly print publication as well as complete access to the website (include the reviews I mentioned). The good thing is the website has a lot of information you don't have to pay for.
It is one of my favorite spots for the latest book curiosities. There is a listing of available jobs in the publishing community; commentaries on books and the book world, including one by AARP specifically for baby boomers; author interviews; news of upcoming releases; the inside scoop on the latest book deals; and trends in our reading choices. But be warned, if you plan on looking around, the website can be a little sluggish even on the fastest DSL. But if you're a multi-tasker like me it may not drive you nuts.
If you are into RSS feeds and have your own reader then you'll be happy to hear the whole website has it so you can mark the sections you want updates for. They also have an email newsletter you can subscribe to to receive updates to the articles, interviews and news areas.
The Publishers Weekly website is a great spot for any book lover to hang out.
