Halloween candy and treats are all around and can be impossible to avoid especially when you have little ones around. Even your festive office mates who celebrate every holiday with decorations and treats can make it impossible for you to stick to your diet. So why not replace the treats you can't eat with ones you can eat. Below is a list of 3 high calorie treats to avoid and 3 you can eat that will still allow you to lose weight.
Halloween Treats To Avoid:
Mini Candy Bars: We currently have 2 gigantic bags of candy in our house for our 4 kids. It includes mini m&m's, skittles, starbursts, and snickers. Calories for 3 pieces are 200. If you have two servings per week you're taking in 400 extra calories of sugar and fat that you don't need. If you're grabbing a serving every day of the week then do the math and get ready to freak out!
Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte: So yummy on a cold morning or if you need a pick me up mid-afternoon but a grande with no fat milk and no whip cream is 288 calories. Have 2-3 of those a week and you're basically asking for a pants upgrade before Thanksgiving even rolls around.
Eyeball Cookies, Spider Cupcakes, & Ghost Pops: Granulated sugar, icing sugar, marshmallow sugar, frosting sugar, all topped with sugary candies that make the eyes, mouths, and legs. What's scary is that some of these treats are in the 350 calorie range and all of it comes from fat and sugar. Skip these unless you want a monster belly or you're planning on adding 45 minutes of walk/run intervals on the treadmill 3 or 4 days a week to burn off these tasty treats. Want to indulge without the guilt then choose healthier halloween treats like the ones below.
Halloween Treats To Eat:
Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn: 1-2 cups of this tasty snack is just 62 calories plus it's way easier to make, more filling, and less sugar. Toss in some almonds or pumpkin seeds and make it even healthier. Lightly coat popcorn with cooking spray and use 1 tsp cinnamon sugar per 2 cups popcorn.
Homemade Apple n Spice Cupcakes: You probably won't find a yummy low calorie treat like this anywhere but it will only take you about an hour to make one batch and at just 139 calories each you can treat yourself and your coworkers 1-2 times a week without feeling guilty. Pair it with a protein shake for a filling breakfast. 100's of healthy recipes can be found online!
Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread Spice Holiday Tea: The delicious smell of fresh-baked gingerbread and cinnamon and all at zero calories, zero fat, zero carbs, and zero sugar. You just can't go wrong with this. Besides, smelling scents like these actually reduces cravings for sugar. Have it with a protein bar as a mid-afternoon mini-meal.
