Bullies want to intimidate and scare and they prey on smaller or younger people. They want to feel bigger and more important. The sad thing about bullies is that bullies usually become bullies become one bullied them when they were younger and smaller. Sometimes the person who bullied them was an older brother, sister or even a mother or father.
Spend the time to read though the book to help reinforce key concepts about bullying such as:
• A bully won’t go away
• A bully tells you to keep it a secret – but DON’T
• Keep telling someone until someone listens
• Being bullied is not a problem you can solve yourself
• This is a serious problem and you need help
• Don’t get mad at a bully – that is what they want
• Say “Please don’t” and walk away
• Tell a trusted adult
In the back of the book there is some role playing exercise – first you are the adult playing the bully, then let your child be the bully and you play the child’s role. There is also a question and answer section to help make sure your child understands.
