MSB - Magic School Bus - On the Ocean Floor
“The best way to learn about the ocean it so see it close up” says Ms. Frizzle.
The magic school bus heads into the ocean. Lenny the lifeguard rushes in to rescue the school bus. The kids get to learn about plankton, and how the sun feeds the ocean animals. They learn about the continental shelf and about rivers in the ocean. They learn about mammals of the sea and why the big waves “break” near shore.
Lenny rescues the whole group of kids and they surf back into shore. Back at school in their classroom they make a terrific chart of the ocean for the bulletin board with some sea birds, lifeguard station, sea star, tidal pools, intertidal zone, continental shelf, continental slope and the deep ocean floor. They set up a shell collection with an abalone, razor clam, sand crab, whelk, cowries and a cockle. In an aquarium they have a seaweed collection with kelp, sea lettuce and bladder wrack.
It has been a great adventure that they will remember for a very long time!
