Chris Benoit – Domestic Violence or Steroid Side Affects?
The reason why I say this is an act of domestic violence and not an instance of steroid use is because of how the murders happened. Let’s look at steroids first.
Steroids also can have the following effects on the mind and behavior:
• "Roid rage" — severe, aggressive behavior that may result in violence, such as fighting or destroying property
• Severe mood swings
• Hallucinations — seeing or hearing things that are not really there
• Paranoia — extreme feelings of mistrust and fear
• Anxiety and panic attacks
• Depression and thoughts of suicide
• An angry, hostile or irritable mood
An episode of “roid rage” is quick and passes. It is very spontaneous. Benoit killed his family and himself of the course of 3 days. Experts have mentioned that this wasn’t an act of “roid rage” but a heinous act of family violence. Yes, there were steroids found in the home and many prescriptions written by his physician. The stress of having a child with a form of mental retardation was too much for this couple to handle. Now that doesn’t give him the excuse to kill his wife and beautiful child. There were other alternatives. From what I have read and I am sure you have too, the couple were constantly at odds about the care of their son. Steroids can cause long term mental problems if abused. I even read in several places that Benoit watched a pay-per-view special with his son while his mother’s dead body lay in the next room and later Benoit suffocated his son. Benoit was paid to be violent at his job, did he bring his work home with him?
In many news articles and stories, it has been reported that Nancy, his wife, filed for divorce and protection from Chris before in 2003. They apparently worked things out later and she dropped the divorce proceedings and the protection order. This case is a prime example of what may happen if you stay in a violent relationship. May Nancy and Daniel finally have peace.
