Chilkoot Charlie's - A Photo Gallery
Chilkoot Charlie’s Photo Gallery has been created by The Beer Fox to bring you a little closer to the adventure and creativity that is a part of the Alaskan landscape. Cheers!
Chilkoot Charlie’s, Anchorage, Alaska
Viewed from the outside, Chilkoot Charlie’s has the appearance of an old Trading Post.
Memorabilia from the Original Bird House
Displayed in a protective glass case is a carved bird from the original Bird House on Seward Highway, along with photos, team awards, an original matchbook, and artwork depicting the famous little Bird House that was halfway between Anchorage and Girdwood.
The Bird House Bar
The current Bird House Bar replicates the original with its tawdry cache of lingerie - bras, panties, thongs, and other unmentionables - signed by their proud owners. Lighting is appropriately "red."
Sawdust Floor in Koot’s
In keeping with the old, rustic, Alaskan theme, Chilkoot Charlie’s bars that depict the early years in Alaskan history are covered with fresh-cut sawdust. The original South Long Bar is the oldest part of the actual bar. The Bird House is a reproduction of the Bird House from the mid-1960's.
Bird House Bartender Joe Weiss
Bartenders at Chilkoot Charlie’s are as much a part of the entertainment as the shows, TV’s and music. Joe Weiss shows his stuff to the patrons, pulls silly stunts, and keeps a cool-headed operation running smoothly.
Chilkoot Charlie’s Wicked Wanda and her Wall of Fame
Wicked Wanda is a legend in her own right. Here, she poses with her own Wall of Fame in Chilkoot Charlie’s.
Replica of the Berlin Wall
As part of the global theme, the Berlin Wall adds to the diversity of Koot’s many faces.
Sputnik
The Russians raced against the USA to gain superiority in space, and Koots celebrates with a tribute to the Russian Sputnik.
The Russian Tea Room Bar
Complete with Russian décor, symbolism, china, and samovar, this bar on the upper level replicates the traditions of czarist Russia.
Soviet Walk
Along a back hallway on the upper level, glass cases with military memorabilia from Soviet history line the walls.
Russian Subway Replica
A replica of a Russian Subway leads you down the stairwell back to the main part of the bar.
Photos of World Famous Pool Shark and Comedian Jackie Gleason
Lining the walls of the pool hall are photographs of Jackie Gleason, pool shark and famous comedian of the 1950’s and ‘60’s.
Beads and Trophies from the Spenardi Gras
Over the years, Koot’s was famous for ever-more-creative parties and festivals that infused spark into the city of Anchorage. The Spenardi Gras was an in-house fest that echoed the celebration of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
Chilkoot Charlie’s Beer Can Collection
Breweriana does not escape Chilkoot Charlie’s. Through its long history as a center for beer and drink, Koot’s has gathered a hefty cache of antique beer cans and breweriana. These are on display in the Spenardi Bar.
