Quizzes Around and About Mexico at BellaOnline

Mexico is a diverse country. The country’s diversity ranges from its people, its culture, its history, its geographical regions, its landscape, its terrain, its arts and crafts, its traditions, its customs, its celebrations and festivals, its architecture, its archaeology, its mega flora and mega fauna, and, of course, its culinary offerings, spicy or not. As editor/writer of BellaOnline’s Mexico Site, I have created four educational and hopefully interesting (and even in a non-sadomasochistic way, fun, I hope) quizzes to test your knowledge about my adopted country, Mexico. Most if not all of the information “quizzed” is covered in the articles that I have written for the site.

You can access the quizzes either at BellaOnline’s Homepage or at the Mexico Site by clicking onto “Take a Quiz” which is under the heading of “DAILY CLICK” on the left hand side of the page(s). Once you are in “BellaOnline’s Quiz and Test Listing,” just click onto “Travel and Leisure Quizzes.” There you will find the four Mexican quizzes.

Each quiz has ten multiple choice questions with four possible answers to select from. After you complete a quiz, you will automatically receive your score, plus an explanation of each of the correct answers. If you have signed on as a BellaOnline member, your score will be recorded under your account.

Below you will find a listing of each current Mexican quiz, a brief description of each, and a sample question that may (but does not as what would be the fun in that!) appear on the quiz:

I. BIRDS and ROCKS of MEXICO
Since birding and rock/mineral collecting are passions of mine and since Mexico is a birdwatchers and mineral collectors paradise, some of the Mexico Site’s articles (ok, a whole lot of them!) enthusiastically and informatively cover those topics.

Sample Question:

Which of these birds are in the cuckoo family?
A. Lesser Roadrunners
B. Long-Tailed Grackles
C. Blue Mockingbirds
D. Russet-Crowned Motmots

II. MEXICO GEOGRAPHY, CITIES, and STATES
Mexico is oh so much more than just sun, sand, and fun destinations. Covering almost 760,000 square miles/2,000,000 square kilometers, the fifth largest country in the Americas, within its borders are numerous Pueblos Magicos/Magic Towns and UNESCO World Heritage Sites that you may or may not be familiar with, along with many other fascinating locales and communities that are well worth visiting. This quiz gently tests your knowledge about where Mexico is, what it is comprised of geographically, and some of its more interesting destinations.

Sample Question:

Which of these destinations is not a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE?
A. Historic Center of Zacatecas
B. Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve
C. Pre-Hispanic City of Chichen-Itza
D. The Peak of Bernal

III. MEXICO THIS, THAT, and WHO

This was the first of the two quizzes that are a hodgepodge of questions about Mexico. It explores your knowledge of such areas as the country’s celebrations, traditions, customs, food, and people.

Sample Question:

When is Mexico’s Independence Day celebrated?
A. 16th of September
B. 5th of May
C. 20th of November
D. 2nd of February

IV. MEXICAN VARIADO

This is the most recent quiz to date and was the second of the two miscellaneous quizzes. This quiz touches upon such areas as Mexican politics, history, weather patterns, species diversity, handicrafts, and special events , among others.

Sample question:

What is Tlaquepaque, a suburb of Guadalajara, famous for?
A. Mariachi
B. Menudo
C. Fine Home Decor
D. Black Pottery

In the future as I write more and more articles about diverse Mexico, I plan to develop additional quizzes. After all, Mexico has ___ species of hummingbirds, ___ species of amphibians and reptiles, ___ geographic regions, ___ World Heritage Sites, ___ types of mole, ___ non-touristy beaches, ___ species of mammals, ___ colonial cities, ___ types of agave, ___ indigenous tribes, ___ kinds of agates, ___ Pueblos Magicos, ___ religious holidays and celebrations, ___ biosphere reserves, ___ archaeological sites,___ types of antojitos, ___ styles of handicrafts...
You see, its diversity is truly amazing and is fertile ground for who knows how many quizzes...

In the meantime, I hope that you will be adventurous enough to take one or more of the current quizzes.

Bienvenido a Mexico’s Quizzes and Buenas Suerte!
