TastyKake Sensables Sugar-Free Chocolate Cupcakes
I grew up loving Hostess Cupcakes with their squiggle of white frosting across the top. That kind of high-sugar treat doesn't do well for people who want to stay a healthy weight! The TastyKake Sensables version is sugar free and 6g per serving.
First, the size is smaller than the Hostess Cupcakes, which is of course fine. The aim for eating healthily is to eat reasonable amounts of treats, not giant amounts :) They also don't have a squiggle across the top. Does Hostess have a trademark on that white squiggle? There is just a white smear where the cream pokes out the top of the cake.
The box holds 12 cakes, which are packed two-to-a-pack, which is great for throwing into a lunchbag or keeping your snacking down to a reasonable level.
The cake is reasonably moist, with a nice chocolatey flavor. Sugar-free chocolate is really quite tasty in modern times, so this is to be expected. The cream inside is a bit bland in flavor. Still, you don't look for gourmet flavors in treats like this. You just want something nice to nibble on with your coffee or tea.
The net carbs on this are 6g per serving - which includes 8g of sugar alcohols. They're using maltitol here. If you're sensitive to sugar alcohols you may want to be cautious the first time or two you try them. I didn't have any problems at all eating them, but then again my body is well used to sugar alcohols by now :)
There is 210mg of salt - 9% of your daily intake - and 1g of trans fat.
Hopefully nobody things that eating these things is healthy for you. They provide no nutrition, they do bring calories into your system, and they keep your sweet tooth stoked to a high level. It would be far better for you if you enjoyed your delicious meal and were happily full after you finished it. If you are looking for between meal snacks, there are many healthy alternatives out there.
Still, if you are really craving a cupcake, and you're about to eat a high sugar variety, this could save you. Great for helping to wean yourself off the high test variety.
