A Golf Trail Vacation
I was interested in an article in the Golf for Women magazine about hitting the Trail of golf course by Robert Trent Jones in Alabama. Since I live on a Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course this was of interest to me. It sounded like it would be a great vacation and when it said these courses were women friendly.
This is a trail of 26 of the best Robert Trent Jones layout in Alabama and if you check out the web site of www.RTGgolf.com you will even be able to book your dates. The web site lists more than 10 hotels, golf villas or condos with a price range and a vacation planning all set up for you. As the article said it could be the greatest bargain in America golf and mentioned that it is no wonder women love it.
The article is written by Steve Eubanks states that it is the largest golf project in the world. It is found in 10 locations stretching from the north to Mobile in the south with all courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Golf Digest calls the Trail one of the 50 best golf destinations in the world making golf tourism the state’s largest industry.
I was amused as the author talks about the gentile and laid back the area was when the waitresses call you Hon or Sugar. It was early breakfast then on to play golf until dark and drive to the next site and start all over again. They were also surprised when they arrived at the course early to hit some balls and found the driving range filled with women. They were told that this Trail was popular with women vacationers. He asked how the women were doing and they replied, “Just great that some of the courses on the Trail are hard and some easy but there is something for everyone”.
The author remarked that they ran into groups of women on many of the courses all having a great time. He talked to the starter on one of the harder course and asked if the women enjoy these courses. He said they love them and they have many repeat customers from the women golfers. He was told that it averages 50/50 for men and women golfers. That says a lot about why the women enjoy the Robert Trent Jones Trail and all the beautiful scenery and amenities that go along with golfing resorts.
At one stop it was pointed out to the author that a group of seven women from Chicago come down every year and range in age from 40-70. They are members of the Ladies League at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling, Illinois. The number of women changes each year as this year they could have had eight but one was a lawyer and a case came up so she could not go with them. They arrive in November in two minivans and say the service and diversity of the course are the reasons they keep coming back. They say you never get bored as each place is unique. This sounds like a great Trail of golf courses and would make a golfers paradise vacation.
