2007 ACM Award Nominees
The Academy of Country Music is set to air May 15th and has announced its list of nominees for the show. This years show is shaping up to make history with artists potentially breaking or matching records of awards won by other artists over the years.
Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts both nominated for Entertainer of the Year can join the small group of Triple Crown winners if either of them wins. The Triple Crown consists of artists that have won the Top New Vocalist/Duo/Group award, the Top Male/Female/Group award and the Entertainer of the Year award. Currently there are only six artists that have done this, Barbara Mandrell, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Dixie Chicks, Mickey Gilley and Merle Haggard.
Rascal Flatts could tie Alabama’s record of 5 wins in a row in the Top Vocal Group category if they win. Brooks & Dunn holds the record for more awards than any other artist in ACM history, 21 total so far. George Strait could take that honor away if he wins all eight of the awards for which he is nominated. Brooks & Dunn also holds the record for number of awards won the Top Vocal Duo category, they have won 13 times, The Judds are the closest to that record with 7 wins in 7 years.
Kenny Chesney could join an elite group of winners if he snags the Entertainer of the Year award again this year. There are only 3 artists that have managed to take this award home 3 years or more in a row, those are Alabama – 5 years in a row, Garth Brooks – 4 years in a row and Hank Williams Jr. – 3 years in a row.
Merle Haggard has managed to do something no other performer has done in the 42 year history of the ACMs, he has been nominated for an award in each decade, the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and now the 21st century for his duet with Gretchen Wilson.
