To build a home Internet business takes know-how. How do I know? It's my field of expertise. That's what I do and I'm good at it.
No, I don't have an MBA or a Ph.D. - so I won't give you any BS. What I do have is guerilla warfare "down-and-dirty" experience in the Internet trenches. Some of the battles were tough, but I won the war!
Now that I've figured out how to create an excellent full-time living by working part-time with my home Internet business, I can give you some good advice. So, let's get busy with Basic Training.
Here are the 10 drills you'll need to master if you want to make a killing on the Internet:
1. Make a commitment to the long haul. Internet marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme. However, if you're committed, it can be a work-hard, get-rich-slowly and stay-rich plan.
2. Organize your workspace. As a home-schooling mother of four, my time is at a premium. But, no matter who you are, running your own work at home business takes an organized space, good time management and efficient systems.
3. Find a good product to sell. By all means, "Find a need and fill it." Just don't go for hot topics (like weight loss). Flashy markets are too saturated. Choose bland and less popular subjects that other marketers tend to ignore (like elderly care).
4. Build a website that will produce results. Once again, avoid flash. Your site just needs to look respectable and be easy to navigate. There are many great templates available that even a novice can use to create a highly functional website.
5. Learn to write sales copy that sells. There are plenty of good books, such as Triggers, by Joseph Sugarman, that can help you improve your copywriting skills. Then comes practice.
6. Offer benefits that people want. Promote benefits, not features. For example, an elderly care facility may have a large professional staff (a feature), but what people really want is for their family member to be safe, happy and well cared for (benefits).
7. Focus on one thing at a time. Most people get distracted and keep jumping from one thing to the next. What works is to stay focused.
8. Effectively market your site and product. Many marketers use Adsense and, for quick traffic, they start with pay per click advertising. Watch those pennies though, they add up quickly. Search engine optimization takes time, but it's great for free traffic.
9. Get free or inexpensive help. There's plenty of help available on the web that cost little or nothing at all (like writing and freely publishing articles that lead to your website). But remember, if something sounds too good to be true it often is.
10. Stick with it for as long as it takes. Making money on the web takes time. So as not to end up AWOL or MIA just before victory is declared, stick to your guns - one battle at a time. Most people surrender long before the war's over.
And now that you know the drill, it's time to get into the action. Don't worry, you can count on me to watch your back. Good luck, soldier!
