Luck of the Draw
Number of Players: 4-8
Ages: 10 and Up
Playing Time: 20 minutes
Do you have trouble drawing a straight line? Your stick figures are not recognizable? Then Luck of the Draw may be the game for you. Gamewright's Luck of the Draw is a game for the artistically challenged. The best artist will not necessarily win this game.
In the Luck of the Draw, players draw objects that are listed on subject cards. The subject for a round is randomly chosen. Players have 45 seconds to draw their artwork. Time is kept with an egg timer. Players turn in their drawings to the middle of the table face down where one player mixes them up - so no one knows who drew which drawing. Next, a player rolls to determine how many categories will be voted on this round.
A color is placed in front of each drawing. Players have a color wheel and vote on each category by the color that represents the drawing that gains their vote. Winning the game depends on the number of players. For a four person game, the first person to collect 7 category cards wins. The number decreases as more players play the game.
Subjects might include Great Wall of China or Happiness. Category that players vote on might include Strangest or Best use of a stick figure. By the categories, you can see that the vote might not be for the best drawing; in fact, it may be for the worse.
For a longer game, you can increase the number of category cards needed to win the game. For a faster game, make it a minimum that two categories will be voted on each round. The number of categories is determined by a dice roll.
The times that we have played Luck of the Draw, the most artistic person has never won. In fact, it has usually been the most artistically challenged person. Playing Luck of the Draw is a lot of fun. It doesn't take that long to play, and the rules are easily explained in just a few minutes.
Luck of the Draw is a fun game for both those who can and can't draw. It's a game that it really doesn't matter how well you draw because the categories will put the drawings on a level playing field. Any person can win Luck of the Draw regardless of their artistic ability. That is great news for people like me who have trouble drawing stick figures.
I received Luck of the Draw from Gamewright. The review is 100% my own opinion.
