Honoring the Priesthood by John Bytheway REVIEW

Honoring the Priesthood by John Bytheway REVIEW
When it comes to understanding how to best honor the priesthood, you will want to go no further than the book, "Honoring The Priesthood: as a Deacon, a Teacher, and a Priest", by John Bytheway. In his delightful fashion, he explains what the priesthood is, it's origins and purpose, and how you can honor it.

The book is filled with humor, stories and scriptures as well as quotes from the leaders of the church. This book will truly help young men to learn what their duties are as Aaronic priesthood holders and help to prepare them to advance to the Melchizedek priesthood.

As a woman, I appreciated the straight talk about the priesthood and the duties that the young men are asked to fulfill. I found great insight and learned some things that I had not thought of before.

Brother Bytheway spends several chapters discussing the sacrament and the responsibilities of the young men in administering it to the congregation. He discusses the symbolism that is present during the administering of the sacrament. He explains the covenants that we take upon us each week as we partake of it. He explains the sacred duty of the priest as he places the entire congregation under covenant with the Lord during the sacrament.

Brother Bytheway also discusses fast offerings and what it means to fast and why we do it. He explains the duties of the young men when they home teach with their partners. He teaches them that they are representatives of the Lord and while they are representing Him, they are in training for their missions that they will fulfill someday.

Brother Bytheway also discusses the importance of keeping oneself morally clean. He discusses the importance of adhering to the booklet, "For the Strength of Youth" and that the rules and guidelines are not placed there to hinder their freedom, but to help keep them safe and happy. He suggests that the booklet could be named "How to be Happy".

I listened to this book on CD and found it very enjoyable as Brother Bytheway reads it himself. He interjects a few extra comments and the sound effects are just wonderful. However, after listening to the book with our son, my husband and I decided that it would be well worth the money to also buy a printed copy of this book. It will be a great addition to our LDS library.

I highly recommend this book to everyone, not just the young men. It is a good reference for understanding the priesthood and the responsibilities therein. I personally feel that every young woman should read or listen to this as it will help them to help the young men magnify their callings as priesthood leaders. And the information on the sacrament will help everyone understand this sacred ordinance better and appreciate the gift that we have been given each week.
