Life ChangingSmokie Norful
When I first heard Smokie Norful I was struck by the sincerity that clearly came through his music. With each beautiful tenor note he sung on his now classic "I Need You Now" you could feel the passion and conviction he felt in his heart throughout the tune. He does the same thing on this project with the song "Um Good". Norful sings of God being good even "if I never own a mansion way out on a hill...if I loose all my possessions....if my friends turn their backs...” he sings of still serving and loving God even if problems come into his life. While listening to this track you know without a doubt that he means just what he is singing about. This standout tune is one of many on his 3rd project which focuses on the life changing events that have happened since we last heard from him. Smokie has become a father, a pastor and has still continued to shine as a "Voice of Inspiration" in the Gospel industry. Like "Um Good" Smokie has penned most of the tunes on this project and has shown that he can write as well as sing. Other tunes to check out are the free flowing urban groove "Great and Mighty" and the smooth jazzy jam "In Time" and the cover of the Whitney Houston classic "Run to You" yeah he can do the ooohs at the end. Don't sleep on the warm ballad "Run Til I Finish" which is Smokie at his best...with just his vocals and a piano. Pure, simple, free and just plain old good...Umm Ummm good. This is Who I AmKelly Price
A heaping full bodied soulful gospel sound is what Kelly Price serves up on this CD that takes her back to where she started from...the church. Recorded live at her former church in Long Island, NY, Price pays tribute to her roots with that power packed voice that has sold millions of albums over the years. Even when she was singing back-up for various artists and finally breaking out on her own with her platinum selling projects Soul of a Woman and Mirror Mirror, a rich gospel tone still flowed in her music. Now she has put it out on full display with this project and what a bountiful blessing she has given to her core fans as well as offering something good that may bring new ones to her fold. The debut release "Healing" is a moving ballad that speaks of calling on God to help heal our souls from the pain we often encounter in life's day to day struggles. The wonderful voice of Price and the beautiful string and piano arrangements blend in well on this tune. The tunes "God is Faithful" featuring Donnie McClurkin and the Al Green cover of "Love and Happiness" are nice touches on the project and certainly worth the listen but the tune that really takes you to "Churrrch" as us southerners say is "Nobody But Jesus" featuring Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Two divas with powerful voices all you can say is wow! It's easy to see why they call Price, "Baby Aretha" when listening to this tune. This tune is one for the nay Sayers in the Gospel community that wonder if a secular artist can come back home to the church if they want to...I say.. sure they can, let them come and hopefully they will come back the way that Price did.
