Meg Ryan - The Look

Meg Ryan - The Look
Meg Ryan has, by far, the most asked for hair style in hair salons. She symbolizes the All-American girl style that says “I don’t fuss with my hair; I just always look great.” Never every hair in place, her hair is in planned disarray.

Layers give her hair fullness without being contrived. This layering is not the precise laying that was used in the smooth “feathered” looks of a few years ago. Uneven, disconnected layers create a look that keeps moving but always lands in attractive style. These layers give the appearance of having been chopped haphazardly but in truth all part of a planned and constructed cut. Her most asked for styles are a perky layered bob or a funky up-dated shag. The fringe or bang area is kept long and given the look of just being brushed out of her eyes.
Once the cut is in place, styling plays the most important part of achieving the look. Use a gel or mousse at the root area of your hair to give it lift. For lots of body, don’t be miserly with the product. Use a blow dryer and brush to dry the hair up off the scalp or turn your head upside down and dry the root area. If it dries flat, the hair will be very difficult to lift later. If you want that little bit of wave that Miss Ryan sometimes shows, scrunch it by grabbing some hair, making a fist and squeezing during the drying process. Your hair may require a perm, wrapped off base and with large perm rods. Your hairdresser is the best choice to do that.

Finish the style with a product designed to give the look a “lived in” feel. This could be a pomade, hair wax or hair crème. Make sure the product is emulsified by rubbing it between your hands and scrunch it into the entire body of the style. Start with a small amount, and experiment with it until you find the perfect amount for your hair.

Hair color is always very important in achieving a “Look”.
Meg Ryan’s color is a lively warm blond overall with lots of depth and highlights. To create this in your own hair, try highlighting with two or three shades. On medium brown to light brown hair, caramel blond, light warm blond and extra light golden blond are a good combination. If your hair is darker or graying, try applying an all-over tint to create the base color and then highlight to add the dimension.

Top off this style with a beautiful smile and you’ve got “The Look”!
