I had been hearing a lot about Al Gore and his documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.” So I finally set out to the video store to rent the DVD. I wasn’t really sure what I would be seeing. After all, we are talking about a documentary produced by a Vice President and past Presidential candidate. Hmmmm. What could a politician know about the truth?
But, I was surprised. Very surprised. Mr. Gore came across as a truthful, compassionate, intelligent and spiritual human being. I already had read about quite a bit of what he was saying, but actually seeing the information presented with graphs, scientific evidence and documented footage and photos made it all the more real for me. He shared his feelings about his own life experiences and his sense of frustration at not being able to get his very important point across to his fellow politicians… or should I say former fellow politicians, since Mr. Gore does not wish to follow that pathway any longer.
His mission now is to travel the world with the message that we need to clean up our act, literally, if we wish to survive upon a rapidly changing Earth. He has presented his slide show in just about every country. As he says, he is trying to make change happen a person at a time, a family at a time, and a country at a time.
To be honest, I didn’t really know that much about Al Gore before I saw this presentation. And, I can also say that I gained a huge respect for him as a environmentalist, teacher, writer and human spirit. And, there is not another politician out there, including our President that I can say that about.
I learned a lot from this documentary. It was educational, thought provoking and a wake up call in terms of the time frames presented before the face of the Earth changes dramatically, due in a very big way, to humankinds ignorance of the natural order of things. It is a must see DVD for the upcoming generation. I highly recommend it for teachers and other educators who are not afraid to promote a sense of responsibility for our planet into our future leaders.
