Pre-book White Wedding on DVD Dec 28
No road is ever straight. It twists and curves, providing the unhappy traveler with obstacles, hurdles and endless exasperation. And if the end of that road is a long dreamed-of wedding, the trials are doubly annoying!
On January 25, 2011, Image Entertainment presents White Wedding, the critically-acclaimed exuberant road comedy about love and loyalty, commitment and companionship. South Africa's submission for the 2010 Academy-Awards Foreign Language Category, White Wedding is an audience-pleasing story that hilariously winds through South Africa's breathtaking landscapes.
The New York Daily describes this little gem as "comic charmer". Seattle Weekly calls it "Absolutely irresistible...tremendously pleasing." Newsblaze.com says "South Africa's answer to "The Hangover". The best road flick in the region since 'The Gods Must Be Crazy.'" SRP is $27.97 for the DVD, with an SRP of $29.97 for the Blu-ray and will also be available via digital download. Pre-book is December 28.
Ayanda (Zandie Msutwanta) is only days away from her white wedding. Dress, bridesmaids, wedding planner, a lush reception, all are in readiness. Only one thing is missing: the groom! Elvis (co-producer Kenneth Nikosi, District 9, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency), the husband-to-be, has gone to pick up his childhood friend and best man Tumi (co-producer Rapulana Seiphemo, Tarzan and the Lost City, Tsotsi) and is hundreds of miles away.
Elvis and Tumi get derailed more than once on their comic, misguided journey. They come across every kind of obstacle, as they meet Rose (Jodie Whittaker, St. Trinian) a free-spirited English doctor, run up against goats, redneck Afrikaners, lose direction and even get into an accident or two.
Meanwhile at home, Ayanda wrestles with her own frustrations. Elvis' tardiness worries her, tied to both European and African marriage traditions confuses her, and her mother's (Sylvia Mngxekeza) opinions just add to the anxiety. And finally, just to add to her anxiety, there is the unexpected arrival of Tony (Mbulelo Grootboom), an old boyfriend.
White Wedding is a bright, feel-good movie about the voyage friends and lovers are willing to undertake to achieve their heart's desire. Will the separation between Ayanda and Elvis prove to be too much, or do they trust each other enough to bridge the gap?
