It’s always a pleasure it see new, original content that does well on primetime TV. Season 1 of Insecure debuted with 8 episodes but a second season was quickly green lighted. The show is a breakout hit and has received very favorable reviews from critics.

Insecure stars Issa Dee (played by co-creator Issa Raye) and Molly (played by Yvonne Orji) as best friends who are working through their experiences within their careers and their relationships in a raw but often times humorous, manner. They both also deal with typical racial stereotypes in a way that makes them very relatable to their audience. As the show progresses, the characters continue to evolve.

Issa is currently in a relationship with her boyfriend of 5 years Lawrence. She works at a non-profit called, “We Got Ya’ll”. Her best friend, Molly is a successful attorney who has difficulty when it comes to dating men. She can’t decide if the man she’s dating is too distant, too clingy, or even in one instance, too gay. Issa and Molly also navigate through their own tumultuous relationship, which takes a toll on each one of them. It’s clear they have been best friends for a long time.

One of the things that make this show so great is the relatability of the characters. Watching Issa nervously navigate through a presentation at work or make tough decisions with her boyfriend is something that’s identifiable by most women. The music is also entertaining. Singer and songwriter Solange Knowles serves as music consultant and she does a great job of playing the right songs at the right time.
