I Am Yoga Book Review
Did your excitement for the new year wear off? It's okay. New resolutions, changes, schedules, and classes can lose their shine once they aren't so new. Everything can start to seem old, boring and even stressful. I want to share with you a little book that just might help you get back on track to a fresh, productive, calm, and creative path.
A visit to my local library on a rainy Saturday morning introduced me to I Am Yoga. I found this book in the children's section. After reading it, I discovered the words and art were powerful and perfect for any age. It was the inspiration and change of attitude I needed.
Simply defined, the word yoga means union. The practice of yoga helps us to connect our minds, hearts, and bodies. It’s an activity we can use to relax (relieve stress) and also find the best in ourselves and in our lives.
I Am Yoga was written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds. I found this book to be a wonderful introduction for tweens, teens and even adults, to the practice and benefits of yoga.
The book’s main character is a young girl who shares with us what she does when she finds herself worrying about who she is, where she fits in, and how to find the time to do all that she needs and wants to do.
She becomes still and quiet and takes the reader through an illustrated inspirational journey of 16 yoga poses.
I found this book to be a great beginner’s guide to yoga. I read the book out loud every night for a week before doing the poses and repeating each inspiring phrase. In just a week’s time, I found myself at the beginning stages of taking an introspective view of who I am and who I would like to be. Yes, I am more relaxed.
This book is small and easy to carry with you, and it’s also available in ebook form. My favorite part of the book is at the end. I Am Yoga includes a guide to 16 yoga poses.
