SOAR: Book review

SOAR: Book review
Kenny Luck, Men's Ministry pastor at Saddleback Church, has penned a new book entitled SOAR, which is part of his men's discipleship series (SOAR contained references to Luck's other books). As a side note, Saddleback Church, for those not familiar with it, is the church of senior pastor, Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life. SOAR promises to show men how to open their lives to the power of the Holy Spirit thus allowing them to actively pursue ministry opportunities and unleash the Holy Spirit's power in the world.

Admittedly, I am not a fan of Purpose Driven Life and wondered if SOAR would hold a similar lack of appeal. Unfortunatley, it did. By no means am a saying it was not well written--it is--nor am I claiming there is nothing to be gleaned from the book. The book offers several examples, some of which are emotional. There is a population out there who will appreciate it. I; however, was not engaged nor was I challenged. The book was very basic. While it does include a workbook--a feature I appreciate in books--the questions failed to inspire me to a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit.

SOAR is full of biblical references and examples from the lives of both prominent and common men. Luck, himself, provides examples and thoughts from his own life. The book; however, would be best suited to a young adult male LIFE group or to a group of newer Christian men. For those who are looking for anything deeper, you will be bored.
