Charity News
I also love Operation Nice. Melissa Morris Ivone started blogging one day after someone did something nice for her. She thought it would be a great idea to encourage others to be nice, proactively, and that’s how Operation Nice began. It’s a blog with great stories from Melissa and contributors to the site.
Help Others sends me their Smile Newsletter. Help Others all began in 2003 when a group of young adults decided to take the concept of pranks (little jokes pulled by anonymous pranksters to get a laugh), and turn them into anonymous acts of kindness. They created “smile” cards to leave behind when one person does something nice for another, in hopes of spreading the kindness. My weekly Smile newsletter is full of ideas for how to be helpful, stories of others caught in the act of kindness, and comments from those who have helped. I love it.
From the Idealist newsletter, I get information from the non-profit organization Action Without Borders. It’s filled with stuff about volunteer opportunities, organizations, resources, events, and even jobs in what I call the field of “making a difference.”
For volunteer leaders and those in the non-profit world who manage a volunteer force, the e-volunteerism journal is a great resource. This is a quarterly newsletter, filled with information about training, inspiring and maintaining a volunteer force.
As I write this, I realize that there are many resources I rely on to provide me with the inspiration and information I need not only to write this column, but to live my life in a meaningful way. One last resource for today, and then perhaps I’ll write a similar piece in the future. Charity Daily is a fantastic site for all charity-related news happening across the globe. You can subscribe to a daily news alert in the various subjects that you have interest, or you can just check the site out regularly. From celebrities in the charity world, to politics and government action around the world, from human rights, poverty and clean water initiatives – you’ll find it all at Charity Daily.
So, check out these newsletters and maybe you’ll subscribe. Like me, I hope you’ll find them to continue to inform, educate and inspire you to make a difference today.
