What do you know about snakes? quiz
In many places it has been a hot, dry summer followed by lots of rain. This can cause snakes to be out of their normal habitat. Snakes can be interesting to watch, but they can cause problems.
Below are several interesting facts that you may not know about snakes:
Snakes are incapable of learning
Snakes can swallow prey three times larger than their mouth
Most snakes have over 200 teeth
Even in small enclosures, snakes can not stop growing.
Snakes move by using special muscles attached to their ribs. Snakes can move using three types of motion:
Sidewinding- is used by snakes on shifting or hot sands. Their muscles push them sideways instead of a back-to front motion. Only 3 parts of the snake touches the surface in this motion, which helps in a hot desert climate. Snakes using this form of locomotion leave "S" tracks in the sand.
Concertina- is used in narrow tunnels. The snake wedges his body against the sides of the tunnel and extends its body forward.
Caterpillar- Large snakes (Boas, etc.) move using this type of motion.
